New chapter: Himachal moves towards self-reliance

Himachal Pradesh, often hailed as the “land of all seasons and all regions,” is fast evolving into a hub of innovation and self-reliance. This was highlighted by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla while inaugurating the Aatmanirbhar Bharat exhibition in Dharamsala on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, the Governor said that Himachal’s natural diversity, agriculture-driven economy, scientific progress, and hardworking citizens are making a vital contribution to nation-building. The exhibition, he noted, reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant and prosperous India.

“I urge all organisations to actively participate in the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign. Together, we can drive India’s development forward,” Shukla said. He underlined the growing capabilities of the state, stating that Himachal is no longer limited to its mountainous identity but is emerging as a centre of new possibilities and innovation.

The exhibition showcased a range of sectors including agriculture, horticulture, MSMEs, food processing, defense technology, biotechnology, rural innovation, healthcare, and startups—highlighting the multifaceted growth of the state.

The Governor also made a strong appeal for social responsibility, calling for united action to make Himachal a drug-free state. “Addiction not only harms individuals but weakens the collective energy of society,” he said.

Shukla emphasised that the platform would serve to highlight Himachal’s strengths on national and international stages, reinforcing the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The event saw the presence of Lok Sabha MP Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj, MLAs, senior BJP leaders, district officials, and academic dignitaries.
