Private Schools Shut Across Andhra Pradesh Today (July 3). Here's Why

Private unaided schools across Andhra Pradesh will remain closed on Thursday as a mark of protest against the issues with implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The protest, spearheaded by various private school management associations, aims to highlight mounting concerns over forced RTE admissions allegedly being made without proper documentation or verification.

School representatives also pointed to undue pressure from officials, including threats of derecognition and the issuance of show-cause notices without following procedural norms, reported The Hindu.

At the heart of the issue lies the RTE Act's mandate, which requires private unaided institutions to earmark 25% of seats at the entry-level for children from economically weaker and disadvantaged backgrounds, as per a report on Times of India. While the associations assert they are not opposed to the policy itself, they allege that recent enforcement measures lack transparency and fairness.
