Breaking: Cloudburst Devastates Himachal’s Thunag Town; 18 Missing, Rescue Operations Ongoing

A devastating cloudburst struck Thunag town in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Monday night, leaving a trail of destruction across the Seraj Valley. The incident triggered multiple flash floods from surrounding hill streams, sweeping through homes, roads, and markets, and cutting off the region from the district headquarters. Visuals from the site show widespread devastation—large boulders, uprooted trees, and slush have filled homes and destroyed essential infrastructure. The main market of Thunag lies in ruins, with roads completely washed away, leaving residents stranded and desperate. As per local authorities, 18 people are still missing, with three bodies recovered so far. The administration has launched rescue and relief efforts using helicopters, but rough terrain and broken connectivity are posing serious challenges. Supply of food and essential materials has also been disrupted, worsening the situation for survivors. Adding to the crisis, the Thunag-Khad—a major water channel—brought further destruction from another direction, compounding the damage caused by three smaller streams. The Thunag Gram Panchayat remains completely isolated on the third day after the disaster, as efforts continue to restore road links and deliver aid. ABP News is the first channel to reach the disaster zone, revealing the full scale of the catastrophe the people of Thunag endured.
