Rajkummar Rao confirms collaboration with 'Piku' and 'October' director Shoojit Sircar

Actor Rajkummar Rao has confirmed an upcoming collaboration with Shoojit Sircar on his next directorial. Earlier media reports suggested that the actor would join the acclaimed director, known for his films such as Vicky DonorMadras Café, PikuOctober, and Sardar Udham, for an untitled project featuring another male lead.

In a previous report, a source close to Pinkvilla stated, “The brief is simple - a credible actor, with some comic timing. Shoojit also wants to work with secure people who don't interfere much in the process of filmmaking. Two-hero films are tricky, and it's crucial to work with the right energies. Shoojit has found Raj, who aligns with his sensibilities, and the hunt for a parallel lead is underway.”

However, the actor has dismissed any possibility of the film being a two-hero comedy. Speaking to PTI, Rao says, “It's not a two-hero comedy film. It's set in Shoojit Da's world. It's about a guy and his journey. It's an amazing story.”

The actor has quite a busy year ahead of him. Currently, the actor is promoting his latest film, Maalik, which is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025. He is also looking forward to his upcoming biopic based on the former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly.

“Sourav da is an emotion. He is certainly one of the best captains we've had in this country. It's a big responsibility, and I understand that. I'm very excited to play the part. I'm very excited to live his life onscreen,” said the actor in a statement. The film is expected to be slated for a late 2026 release. The biopic is not Rao’s first biographical role—in fact, the actor has portrayed real-life characters in his previous works, such as ShahidOmerta, and Srikanth.

Further details of Sircar’s upcoming directorial are still under wraps.
