Disha Salian death: SIT rules out foul play; Sena (UBT) demands apology from CM Fadnavis

In an affidavit filed before the Bombay High Court recently, the Mumbai Police have ruled out any foul play in the death of Disha Salian and contended that the celebrity manager committed suicide.

Disha had jumped off the window of a flat out of her own volition, and the postmortem report mentions no signs of sexual or physical assault on the deceased, the police said in its report which comes at variance with her father’s claim that she was gang-raped and murdered.

"So far the findings of the Special Investigation Team pertaining to the circumstances that caused deceased Disha Salian's death are coherent with the finding of earlier investigation officer of the said case," it said.

Disha died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in the Malad area of Mumbai.

The Malad police, which initially probed the case, concluded it was a case of suicide. They claimed that Disha was under tremendous mental stress due to a dispute with her family and also because her business deals were not working out.

However, Satish Salian, Disha’s father, approached the high court alleging that she was raped and murdered and subsequently there was a politically orchestrated cover-up to protect certain influential persons.

He also sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into his daughter's death and an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray.

'CM should apologise'

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut demanded a public apology from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, BJP leaders, and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde after the SIT ruled out foul play in the death of Disha.

"Now, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis should apologise (to Aaditya Thackeray). Narayan Rane's son Nitish Rane, Devendra Fadnavis, other BJP leaders, Eknath Shinde, all of them should apologise to Shiv Sena (UBT) and Aaditya Thackeray,” he said.

The NCP(SCP) also attacked the BJP for trying to link Aditya Thackeray to Disha’s death. “The BJP and its allies attempted to take political advantage by associating Disha Salian's name with Aaditya Thackeray,” he told ANI news agency.
