Premier League champions Liverpool FC on Thursday afternoon (IST) confirmed the passing of their Portuguese forward Diogo Jota (28) in a car accident. The Merseyside club — home to the late star since 2020 — stated that they will not disclose further details of the tragic incident, out of respect for the privacy of his family and loved ones. "Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andres family, friends, teammates," it said.
Earlier, the Spanish civil guard confirmed to news agency Associated Press that Jota and his brother Andre were found dead after their car went off a road near the western city. They were investigating the causes that led to the tragedy and added that there were no other vehicles involved.

Diogo Jota, who joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers, made 182 appearances for the Reds, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists. The former FC Porto striker won three major titles with Liverpool during his time at Anfield: Premier League title (2024-25), FA Cup title (2021-22) , League Cup title (2021-22).

The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.
