A 22-year-old woman working in the IT sector was allegedly raped inside her flat in Pune by a man who pretended to be a courier delivery agent. The shocking incident happened around 7:30 pm on Wednesday in a housing society located in the Kondhwa area of the city. The young woman, who lives with her brother, was alone at the time as her brother was out of town.
According to the police, the man posed as a courier agent and came to her door with what he claimed was an important bank document. When she opened the door, he asked for a pen to sign the receipt. As she turned around to get the pen, he forced his way inside and locked the door from inside.
After that, the woman does not remember anything clearly. She only regained consciousness about an hour later, around 8:30 pm. She immediately informed her relatives, who then called the police.
Police believe the man may have used some chemical spray or substance to make her unconscious. This detail is still being investigated.
Shockingly, the accused also clicked a selfie using the victim’s phone. The photo shows the woman’s back and part of the man’s face. Before leaving, he sent a threatening message from her phone, saying he had taken her pictures and would leak them online if she told anyone. He even warned her, “I will come again.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde confirmed that a case has been filed. The woman has been sent for a medical check-up, and police are reviewing CCTV footage from the society to help identify the man. A sketch of the suspect is also being prepared.
The case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for rape, criminal intimidation, and voyeurism. The search for the accused is still ongoing.
This horrifying crime has left the city shocked, and authorities have assured that they are doing everything they can to catch the man and bring him to justice.
