Chandigarh’s Vivek head coach of Indian junior judo team

Local judo coach Vivek Thakur has been appointed as a head coach of Indian junior team by the Judo Federation of India and Sports Authority of India for the Asian Judo Cup 2025 to be held in Taipei from July 13 to 17.

Thakur claimed to have assisted Indian teams for Grand Prix 2023 in Dushanbe (Tajikistan), Asian Judo Open 2024 in Aktau (Kazakhstan), Senior Asian Judo Open Hong Kong and Asian Judo Cup 2025 in Taipei.

A total of seven local judokas from the Sector 34 Sports Complex have been selected for the same championship. Saiyam Chaudhary (50 kg), Himanshu (60kg),

Karan Pratap Singh (66kg), Fardeen (74kg), Mehak Singh (52 kg senior), Navroop (57kg junior) and Ishroop Narang (78 junior) will be representing the nation in the Asian meet.

Thakur started his coaching career in 2018 and won silver medal in the Commonwealth Judo Championships and gold medal in School International Championship.
