‘Plastic-Mukt Chandigarh’ drive ends

On International Plastic Bag Free Day, the Municipal Corporation marked the culmination of its month-long “Plastic-Mukt Chandigarh” campaign, which was launched on June 5 coinciding with World Environment Day.

MC Joint Commissioner, Swachhta Brand Ambassador Praveen Duggal, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal president Sanjeev Chadda and representatives from the Market Welfare Association were among those present on the occasion.

A key highlight of the celebration was the MC’s public awareness drive to educate citizens about Biocrux machine — a cutting-edge automated solution for recycling plastic bottles.

A live demonstration was held at a recently installed unit near Neelam Theatre in Sector 17, encouraging people to contribute towards responsible plastic disposal.

To promote community participation, the Joint Commissioner felicitated two residents — Manju and Bajrangi — for depositing used plastic bottles and earning 500 Green Points through the Biocrux system. Both were honoured with T-shirts made from recycled plastic fabric and certificates of appreciation.

Speaking about the initiative, MC Commissioner Amit Kumar said the MC had earlier installed 11 Biocrux plastic baling machines across the city. Since their inception 1.5 years ago, the machines have collectively recycled 29,031 plastic bottles, amounting to approximately 580.62 kg of plastic waste. The MC reiterated its commitment to a cleaner, plastic-free Chandigarh and encouraged residents to adopt eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastic.
