Prone to outages, Panchkula Sector 10 gets alternative power grid

In a major relief to over 10,000 residents of Sector 10, the area will soon receive its electricity supply from the Sector 5 power grid instead of the distant Industrial Area Phase 2.

The move by Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) follows persistent efforts by the House Owners Welfare Association (HOWA), aimed at ending years of power disruptions.

Due to the previous 2.5 km-long connection via dense tree cover, Sector 10 regularly experienced faults during storms, causing frequent outages. The Sector 5 grid, just 1.4 km away, is expected to offer more stable and reliable power.

According to HOWA Chairman Bharat Hitaishi, around 70 poles are currently being installed to support the new connection, with insulated cables to minimise disruptions during adverse weather. UHBVN officials, including XEN Ashish Chopra and SDO Sanjay Verma, confirmed the work is underway despite seasonal challenges and is expected to complete in three to four weeks.

In the past three years, UHBVN has upgraded Sector 10’s infrastructure, adding 26 new transformers and enhancing conductor capacity. Officials stated the old Industrial Area connection would remain on standby in case of emergencies.

Local residents and HOWA members expressed gratitude to the UHBVN team for addressing their long-standing concerns.
