AAP accuses Mayor of failing to manage sanitation in Delhi

The simmering sanitation crisis in Delhi erupted into a political confrontation on Thursday as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors dumped garbage outside the office of Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) headquarters, accusing the BJP-led civic body of failing to manage Delhi’s cleanliness.

Led by Leader of Opposition in MCD, Ankush Narang, the AAP delegation stormed the Civic Centre to seek answers over worsening sanitation in the Central Zone. However, upon finding the Mayor absent during public meeting hours, they launched a dramatic protest, chanting slogans and unloading trash at the entrance.

“The Central Zone is immersed in garbage,” said Narang. “The condition of the Central Zone is appalling. Garbage is scattered on every road, in every lane. Citizens are suffering, but the BJP is only busy with politics and has completely failed to act on the ground. AAP will continue to raise the voice of Delhiites until this crisis is resolved.”

Narang accused the Mayor of “vanishing from duty,” claiming he was partying in Manesar while Delhi residents suffered. He demanded Raja Iqbal Singh’s resignation, alleging that the BJP had “completely failed” to fulfill its promises. “Their mega cleanliness campaign exists only in slogans,” he said, warning of looming public health crises amid monsoon conditions.

In response, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh condemned AAP’s protest as a “shameful display of anarchy.” He accused the party of turning Delhi into a dump during its tenure and now doing the same to the MCD headquarters. “This reflects the anarchic mentality of AAP. After being rejected by the public, they have stooped to low-level politics,” he said.

The Mayor defended the BJP’s record, stating that the formation of the Standing Committee had already resulted in 25 development proposals being passed. He accused AAP of stalling progress during its rule and said BJP’s governance is now putting Delhi back on track.
