Operations resume at airports in Canada after bomb threats prompted evacuations, flight delays
A wave of bomb threats triggered flight delays and evacuations at almost all major airports in Canada early Thursday morning. This led to immediate investigations and searches by security agencies, after which operations at most of these airports resumed.
Navigation Canada (NAV Canada), the agency which looks after the air navigation in Canada, said in its statement on X that it was made aware of bomb threats affecting facilities in Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver.
“Employees at impacted locations are safe, and a temporary ground stop has been implemented at the affected airports,” the statement said.
NAV Canada further stated, “We are collaborating with the authorities to address the situation and ensure the safety of all personnel and passengers. Travellers are advised to check directly with their airline for latest updates, as delays may occur.”
After investigations were carried out by security agencies, routine operations resumed at the airports.
“Following this morning’s security threat at multiple NAV CANADA sites, all operations have now returned to normal. Travellers are encouraged to check directly with their airlines for latest updates, as delays may still occur,” NAV Canada stated, adding that in the interest of security protocols, they could not disclose the specific nature of the threat.
“Following the evacuation of a number of our sites and subsequent threat assessment by authorities, service is gradually resuming at affected sites. Travellers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest updates, as delays are expected. We thank airlines and passengers for their patience as we work towards normal operations,” it stated.
The authorities have urged passengers to consult with their airlines to know any changes in their travel schedules.
