Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Declares Vijay As Chief Ministerial Face For 2026 Tamil Nadu Polls

In a significant political development, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has officially announced that its founder and president, actor-turned-politician Vijay, will be the party's Chief Ministerial face for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

In a meet on Friday, the party passed resolutions declaring the CM face. The party also said that Vijay will meet the public from September to December. The second TVK conference will take place in August.

No Alliance With DMK, BJP: Vijay

At the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) State Executive Committee meeting, actor and party president Vijay firmly declared that any alliance led by TVK would remain staunchly opposed to both the DMK and BJP. He emphasized that there would be no room for compromise on this stance.

Vijay asserted that the party’s position was clear and unwavering, stating, “We are Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam — not DMK or AIADMK to forge ties with the BJP for selfish political gains.” The meeting formally recorded this resolution, reaffirming TVK’s commitment to principled politics.

'BJP Encourages Division Among People'

Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) held its State Executive Committee meeting at the party headquarters in Chennai, where the party chief made a strong statement against any association with the BJP or separatist forces. Citing ideological differences, Vijay said, according to ANI: “No direct or indirect alliance with ideological enemy and separatists. BJP divides people based on religion and encourages division among people to enjoy political gain. Their such poisonous attempts could work anywhere but never in Tamil Nadu."

The meeting also saw the passage of several key resolutions. One resolution condemned the Election Commission’s decision to carry out intensive electoral revision in poll-bound states, calling it a veiled attempt to suppress minority votes and boost its voter base.
