Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, today issued a stern warning to cybercriminals and individuals flouting official instructions.

He said that the police are closely monitoring all violations and will take strict legal action against offenders.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Muharram procession in Srinagar, the IGP said, “Our primary focus remains on ensuring law and order. Anyone who violates the directions or conditions laid down by the authorities is immediately identified, and appropriate legal action is initiated against them.”

Addressing questions related to cybercrime, the IGP revealed that the Union Territory has witnessed a steady rise in online fraud and related offences.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have set up a dedicated cyber police station to specifically handle such cases. “As complaints are received, the cyber wing responds based on the nature and severity of each case,” he said.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online activity.

“Many people fall victim to fraud through various digital platforms.

Our cyber team is actively raising awareness and launching campaigns to educate citizens about such threats,” the IGP added.

Reiterating the police force’s commitment, he said, “We want to ensure that no one misuses technology to exploit innocent people.

“The police will not hesitate to act against anyone found guilty.”

He also mentioned that the police, in coordination with other security forces, have made elaborate and foolproof arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.

The Kashmir Police have made significant progress in combating cybercrime.

They have a highly trained cyber unit that deals not only with digital fraud but also with terror funding.

The cyber police have successfully solved several cases of cyber fraud and identified many criminals involved in duping people.

They regularly update the public about the types of cybercriminals operating and the methods they use to trap unsuspecting individuals.
