The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a plea contesting the final answer key and results of the NEET-UG 2025 examination conducted by the National Testing Agency.
A bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and R. Mahadevan was hearing plea filed by candidates Shivam Gandhi Raina, alleging that there was mistake in the answer given by the NTA to one question.
At the outset, the bench said that it had dismissed a similar matter on Wednesday and said, "Exam matter we are not going to interfere. You may be right on principle that there could be multiple correct answers.”
Senior Advocate R. Balasubramaniam, appearing for the petitioner urged the bench that the Supreme Court had earlier interfered in the 2024 NEET-UG exam and ordered the correction of mistakes based on an expert report given by IIT-Delhi.
"It is a matter affecting the career of the students. One mark difference will mean a lot. So many students are affected by this," Balasubramaniam submitted urging the constitution of an expert committee to ascertain the matter.
But the bench refused to change its stand, saying that it cannot interfere in an individual matter in a national exam.
Justice Narasimha clarified that the Supreme Court's interference in 2024 was due to widespread grievances regarding the discrepancies and shortcomings in the conduct of the exam.
According to the plea, petitioner has secured an All India Rank of 6,783 and a General Category Rank of 3,195. If the incorrect answer is corrected, the petitioner will get 5 more marks, improving his position, the petition states.
The petitioner sought a direction to the NTA to correct the alleged error in the answer key as per the authoritative NCERT texts and revise the results accordingly. He also seeks stay of the counselling process as an interim relief.
