Indore Tops Country In Eat Right Challenge Competition; District Level Advisory Committee Meeting Held

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore district has become a leader in the implementation of Food Safety and Standards Act. The district is at the top in the country in Eat Right Challenge Competition-4.

Its official announcement is going to be made soon. City has got 180 marks out of 200 in the Eat Right Challenge Competition.

This was informed in the meeting of the District Level Food Safety Advisory Committee held on Friday at the Collector Office under the chairmanship of Collector Asheesh Singh.

In the meeting, the works related to effective implementation of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, registration of food traders, training, inspection, sample collection, judicial action and public awareness were reviewed. Collector Singh honored the institutions and establishments that gave remarkable cooperation in the activities of Eat Right Challenge Competition.

Additional Collector Gaurav Benal, District Food Safety Officer Manish Swami along with officers of other related departments and members of institutions were present in the meeting. It was told in the meeting that in the last financial year, from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, 869 legal and 2481 surveillance samples were taken.

Whereas in the current financial year, from April 1 to June 30, 2025, 315 legal and 490 surveillance samples were collected. In the year 2024-25, 110 judicial cases were filed.

In which 193 cases were decided and a fine of Rs 1 crore 88 lakh was imposed and Rs 82 lakh 38 thousand was recovered. Revenue of Rs 2 crore 45 lakh (2024-25) and Rs 41 lakh 30 thousand was received from registration in the current year.

It was told in the meeting that Indore got 180 marks out of 200 under Eat Right Challenge-4. Two Eat Right Stations, two Street Food Hubs, nine campuses, five schools were identified in the district.

702 food handlers were given FoSTaC training, more than 2100 food products were tested through Mobile Food Testing Laboratory (MFTL) and 85 public awareness programs were organized.

In the meeting, Collector Singh honored Fatehabad- Chandravati Ganj and Gautampura Road Railway Station, Annapurna Temple and Ranjit Hanuman Temple, Grand Sheraton, Radisson, Marriott Hotel, Geeta Bhawan Hospital, Rajat Jayanti Complex, The Hub Chowpatty and Choithram North Campus, Government Sandipani Navin Kanya Vidyalaya, Government Middle School Subhash Nagar and Government Middle School Chitavad for their notable cooperation in the activities of Eat Right Challenge Competition and for active cooperation in “Eat Right” activities.

Collector Singh directed in the meeting that strict legal action should be taken against food adulterators. Regular inspection of school and college canteens should be ensured. Quality should be ensured by registering milk vendors in rural areas.

Mobile Food Testing Laboratory (MFTL) camps should be organized in colonies. Information about fat machine should be widely publicized.

The scope of FoSTaC training should be increased and more public awareness should be brought about through public participation. The new food testing laboratory should be started operating soon.

A continuous campaign is being run in Indore to provide food items of full quality, purity and correct measurement to consumers.
