Ukraine President Zelensky Speaks With Donald Trump On Phone, Discuss Russian Airstrikes, Defense Deal
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Friday, during which the leaders addressed critical issues including escalating Russian airstrikes on Ukraine and drone supplies to Kyiv.
In a post on X, President Zelensky shared details of their discussion, "I had a very important and productive conversation with President Trump. I took the opportunity to congratulate him and all Americans on US Independence Day."
Expressing appreciation for American assistance, Zelensky added, "We in Ukraine are profoundly grateful for all the support we've received. This aid helps protect lives and preserve our freedom and independence. Together with America, we've accomplished much, and we endorse all initiatives to halt the violence and establish a just, lasting peace with dignity. What we need now is a noble peace agreement."
The Ukrainian leader confirmed they specifically discussed Russian air attacks, reaching consensus on enhanced cooperation to strengthen Ukraine's air defences. "We've also arranged for our teams to meet," Zelensky noted.
This high-level discussion occurred just one day after Trump's reported conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they allegedly addressed both the Ukraine conflict and the situation in Iran.
