NIA arrests key accused in Karnataka BJP leader’s murder case after two years

The NIA on Friday arrested the key accused in the case pertaining to the murder of BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru in 2022.

Upon his arrival from Qatar, the accused identified as Abdul Rahaman, who had been on the run for two years, was taken into custody by an NIA team at Kannur International Airport. He was one of the six absconders in the case and carried a reward of Rs 4 lakh for information leading to his arrest.

Nettaru was hacked to death with sharp weapons by PFI members on July 26, 2022, in Bellare village of Sullia Taluk in Karnataka.

According to the NIA, Rahaman had harboured the main assailants and others involved in the killing, allegedly on the instructions of the banned outfit, Popular Front of India (PFI). He fled to Qatar soon after several attackers were apprehended. Rahaman was chargesheeted, along with three others, by the agency in April this year
