In good news for Punekars, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) successfully completed the first trial run for a part of its metro route from Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar on Friday.
"A significant milestone has been achieved in the construction of Pune Metro Line 3, connecting the city’s IT hub with its central area. On July 4, 2025, the first test run of the metro was conducted between Maan Depot and PMR-4 station," PMRDA wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The PMRDA said that the work is 87 per cent complete and that the revised deadline of March 2026 would be achieved.
"This 23.3 km-long fully elevated metro route is being constructed with 23 stations, and the project has achieved an overall progress of 87%. The remaining work is in the final stage, and the project is targeted to be completed by March 2026," read the post.
The project is being implemented under a public-private partnership model and is being developed through a joint venture of Tata and Siemens under the name 'Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd'.
For this route, four air-conditioned metro train sets have arrived in Pune, with each train consisting of three coaches and a total capacity of 1,000 passengers. These trains have a speed of 80 km per hour.
The project work started on November 25, 2021.
