‘Metro In Dino’ Box Office Collection Day 1: Anurag Basu’s Multi-Starrer Starts Slow, Opens To Only ₹3.35 Crore
Anurag Basu’s ensemble drama ‘Metro In Dino’ may not have stormed the box office on Day 1, but it has still managed to outperform the opening numbers of its predecessor ‘Life In A Metro’. The film, which stars an impressive lineup of actors including Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sara Ali Khan, earned ₹3.35 crore on Friday, according to early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk.
The romantic drama, which weaves together the lives of four couples exploring love and relationships in urban India, is a spiritual successor to Basu’s 2007 cult hit. While ‘Metro In Dino’ has opened to a modest figure, it's considered a decent start for a genre that rarely sees explosive numbers on day one.
With an average 17.99% occupancy nationwide, the film saw the strongest footfalls in metros like Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru. In fact, Delhi NCR and Mumbai led in terms of total show count, suggesting that urban audiences remain curious about the film's slice-of-life narrative.
Interestingly, advance bookings had projected a lukewarm opening of around ₹50–60 lakh, but the film exceeded expectations and crossed the ₹3.5 crore mark. This performance already puts it ahead of ‘Life In A Metro’, which had a first-day earning of ₹87 lakh but went on to collect ₹24.31 crore globally.
'Metro In Dino' Future Predictions
Critics and early viewers have given ‘Metro In Dino’ a mixed response, with some praising the film’s emotional depth and nuanced performances, while others felt the storytelling lacked the punch of its predecessor. Nevertheless, the weekend numbers will play a crucial role in determining the film’s fate at the box office.
Given its strong ensemble cast, relatable themes, and the goodwill surrounding Basu’s original film, ‘Metro In Dino’ might still build momentum through word-of-mouth and emerge as a slow-burn success. All eyes are now on how the film performs over Saturday and Sunday.
