Delhi News:Karol Bagh Mall Blaze Uncontrolled for Over 15 Hours; One Dead | ABP NEWS

A massive fire broke out at Vishal Mega Mart in Delhi’s bustling Karol Bagh area, and over 15 hours later, the fire continues to rage. The fire started around 6:30 PM yesterday on the first floor of the four-storey building and has since spread rapidly due to the presence of flammable items like oil and ghee, particularly on the third floor. Despite the efforts of 18 fire tenders and numerous firefighters working overnight, the fire has not been fully controlled. One casualty has been confirmed—Dhirendra Pratap Singh, who got trapped inside the lift during the evacuation and died from severe burns and suffocation. Firefighters are facing major challenges due to the building’s design—there are no windows for ventilation, and the stairways were blocked with stored goods, hindering access. Cooling operations are still underway, particularly on the top floor. Nearby shops have been shut as a precaution, and electricity in the area has been cut. Authorities will now investigate if the mall complied with fire safety norms. The lack of proper exits and fire management systems has raised serious concerns, especially given the high footfall in Karol Bagh’s commercial zone.
