Janhit: PM Modi Addresses Trinidad Parliament, Celebrates Shared Democracy and Diaspora Ties | ABP NEWS
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a historic speech at Trinidad and Tobago's iconic Red House, becoming the first Indian PM to address its Parliament. He extended greetings from 1.4 billion Indians and also conveyed warm wishes from the people of Ghana, where he had visited earlier. Modi praised Trinidad and Tobago for its vibrant democracy and honored the leadership of its President and Prime Minister—both proud daughters of the Indian diaspora. Highlighting the shared colonial past and democratic journey of both nations, he said, “We wrote our own stories with courage as ink and democracy as our pen.” He applauded the country's recent elections and congratulated Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on forming the government again. Modi also expressed his deep emotion seeing the Speaker’s Chair engraved with “From the People of India to the People of Trinidad and Tobago,” calling it a symbol of enduring friendship. The Prime Minister celebrated the 180-year-old cultural bond between India and the Caribbean, where Bhojpuri met Creole and tabla blended with steelpan. He accepted Trinidad and Tobago’s highest national honor on behalf of all Indians, dedicating it to the centuries-old ties between both nations.
