Karnataka Braces For Widespread Rain This Week As Monsoon Gains Momentum Again
Karnataka is expected to witness a fresh spell of rain over the weekend and into next week, as the southwest monsoon remains active across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall across southern interior regions, with coastal and northern areas also likely to receive showers under normal monsoon conditions.
Karnataka Weather Update
In northern interior Karnataka, light to moderate rain is expected across districts such as Belagavi, Bidar, and Dharwad. Central and southern regions, including Mysuru, Tumakuru, and Ballari, are also likely to see widespread light to moderate rainfall with gusty winds. The rainfall is likely to continue for the whole of this week till July 11.
IMD said: "Heavy rain with sustained wind (40-50 kmph) likely to occur at one or two places over Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Kodagu and Hassan districts. Light to moderate rain with sustained wind (40-50 kmph) likely to occur at many places over Ballari, Bengaluru (Rural), Bengaluru (Urban), Chikkaballapura, Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, Davangere, Mandya, Mysuru, Kolar, Ramanagara, Tumakuru and Vijayanagar districts."
Authorities at Bhadra Dam in Chikkamagaluru’s Lakkavalli have issued a precautionary alert due to rising water levels, urging residents downstream to stay vigilant, reported The Hindu.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall alerts have been issued for several districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu. Coastal areas may see isolated intense showers, while Malnad and southern interior districts are set to experience strong winds and heavy rain at one or two locations.
Bengaluru Rains
In Bengaluru, residents can expect light rain and gusty winds of up to 50 kmph with daytime temperatures around 28°C and minimums near 20°C.
On Friday, Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar said, "Goddess Chamundeshwari has blessed us with very good rain, and farmers are happy with her blessings. Karnataka has witnessed very good rain this year."
