Chandigarh Police file chargesheet against three BKI operatives

The Chandigarh Police have filed a chargesheet against three operatives of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), who were allegedly planning to carry out a major terror attack in the city.

The accused have been identified as Harwant Singh, Sumandeep Singh and Jobanjit Singh.

The chargesheet has been filed under Sections 25, 54, 59, and 27 of the Arms Act, Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act-1908 and Sections 112 (2), A, 121 (1), 132, 221, 109 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The Chandigarh Crime Branch had arrested Harwant Singh, alias Harry, from Daria, Chandigarh, in May this year on the inputs provided by Jobanjit Singh.

One pistol and three cartridges were recovered from his possession.

According to the police, Harwant, a resident of Amritsar, is a close aide of US-based gangster-turned-terrorist Harpreet Singh, alias Happy Passia and Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda.

The police claimed that he allegedly engaged in anti-national activities, including facilitating the supply of arms and ammunition for terrorist operations in Punjab.

The police also claimed that Harwant worked on the instructions of Passia and received financial support from him as well as other gangsters.

The police claimed he also played a role in recruitment by inducting individuals like Sumandeep Singh and Jobanjit Singh into the terror network. Earlier, the names of Passia and Rinda had surfaced in the 2024 grenade attack case in Sector 10 here.

The National Investigation Agency is already investigating the case. As per the NIA, Passia and Rinda had planned the attack in Chandigarh through Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih.
