PM Modi Arrives In Brazil For 17th BRICS Summit, Receives Heartfelt Welcome From Indian Community

Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 17th BRICS Summit, marking a significant leg of his multi-nation diplomatic tour. He landed at Galeão International Airport to a warm welcome, kicking off a two-city visit to the South American nation at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

This marks PM Modi’s fourth trip to Brazil, underscoring the deepening ties between the two democracies. Following the summit in Rio, he is set to visit the country’s capital, Brasília, for a state-level engagement with President Lula.

Announcing his arrival, PM Modi posted on social media platform X:
“Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I will participate in the BRICS Summit and then head to its capital, Brasília, for a State visit at the invitation of President Lula. Looking forward to a productive round of meetings and interactions during this visit.”

Upon his arrival, the Indian diaspora in Brazil turned out in large numbers to greet him, celebrating with vibrant cultural performances. One particularly stirring performance paid tribute to Operation Sindoor, India’s anti-terror mission aimed at Pakistan-based terror networks. The heartfelt tribute resonated deeply with the Prime Minister, who acknowledged the display of patriotism with warmth and appreciation.

The emotional welcome not only underscored the strong connection between the Indian community abroad and their homeland, but also set a spirited tone for the Prime Minister’s engagements at the multilateral forum.

During his time at the BRICS Summit, PM Modi is expected to engage in bilateral discussions with several global leaders, further advancing India’s diplomatic outreach.

The BRICS bloc—originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—has recently expanded to include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran. This broader coalition has transformed BRICS into a formidable alliance of emerging economies, playing an increasingly vital role in shaping global economic and political narratives.

Before arriving in Brazil, PM Modi made key stops in Africa and South America. On July 2–3, he visited Ghana at the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama, where he addressed the nation’s Parliament. His next destination was Trinidad and Tobago (July 3–4), where he held high-level talks with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

In a historic move, Modi also visited Argentina—his first bilateral visit to the country and the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly six decades—adding further diplomatic weight to his overseas tour.
