'Well Played Star Boy...': Virat Kohli Reacts To Shubman Gill's Century In Second Innings Of IND vs ENG 2nd Test

Virat Kohli heaped praise on Team India's new Test captain Shubman Gill for another scintillating century in the second innings of the India vs England 2nd test at Edgbaston. After Gill smashed 161 runs in the second innings, Kohli posted a message on his Instagram story which said, "Well played star boy. Rewriting history. Onwards and upwards from here. You deserve all of this,"

Shubman Gill's performance in the England series

Gill is currently the leading run-getter in the series with 585 runs. He has so far scored 430 runs across both innings of the ongoing match. His knock in the second innings helped India set a daunting target of 608 for England to chase down.

Gill had smashed the highest-ever score by an Indian Test captain in an individual innings when he scored 269 in the first innings of the Test, surpassing a record previously held by Kohli.

In the second innings, en route to his 161, Gill surpassed another record of Kohli's. Gill overtook Kohli by scoring the most runs by an Indian captain in their debut series as captain.

Kohli, who retired from Test cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, had invited Gill, vice-captain Rishabh Pant and a few others to his home in London just a few days ahead of the first Test at Headingley.

India dominate England on Day 4

Day 4 of the second Test between India and England at Edgbaston saw India take complete control of the match, leaving England with a mountain to climb. After a dominant batting performance in both innings and a fiery display from their bowlers, India ended the day with England reeling at 72/3 in their second innings, still needing 536 runs for an unlikely victory.

Akash Deep struck twice early, while Siraj added another to reduce England to 72/3. Ollie Pope and Harry Brook were holding the fort at stumps, but the mountain ahead looks steep. India now stand just seven wickets away from a famous Test victory, while England need a miracle to save the match on Day 5.
