UIDAI has issued new instructions regarding the documents required for work related to Aadhar card. These updates are for the assessment year 2025–26 and apply to both Aadhaar enrollment and updates.

UIDAI released a new list of documents

The Unique Identification Authority of India i.e. UIDAI has released a new list for the year 2025–26 for making and updating Aadhar. The new list tells which documents will now be required for Aadhar.

For whom are these new rules applicable?

Indian citizens

Indians living abroad (OCI cardholders)

Children above 5 years of age

People living in India on long-term visa (LTV)

Which documents are valid?

Indian passport is valid for all four types of proofs – proof of identity (ID), address, relationship and date of birth.

Apart from this, these documents can also be useful

PAN card

Voter ID

Ration card

Driving license

Bank passbook

Pension card

Any certificate received from the government

Which of these documents to submit will depend on what you are updating.

Now only one Aadhaar for one person

UIDAI has clearly stated that if someone has two or more Aadhaar numbers by mistake, then only the first Aadhaar number issued will be valid, and all other Aadhaar numbers will be cancelled.

Different rules for OCI and foreign nationals

Foreign nationals and OCI card holders will have to provide documents like foreign passport, visa, citizenship certificate, or residence permit from FRRO.

Do you want to change your name, gender or date of birth?

If you want to change your name, date of birth or gender in your Aadhaar, then for this you will have to submit self-declaration along with gazette notification, medical certificate or birth certificate.
