American entrepreneur Elon Musk announced his new political party, the 'America Party', on Saturday to "give back" the United States its freedom. Musk, once a close ally of US President Donald Trump, had fiercely opposed the latter's ambitious 'Big, Beautiful Bill', which Musk believes will bankrupt the country.

The American techpreneur said the US has a uniparty system when it comes to graft. "By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom," Musk announced through X, the social media platform he owns.

Quoting Greek history, Musk said, "The way we’re going to crack the uniparty system is by using a variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility at Leuctra: Extremely concentrated force at a precise location on the battlefield."

Musk, responding to a X user, said the party would contest the elections "next year", referring to the 2026 midterm US elections. “We’ll start small, contesting key seats in 2026 to flip the balance, not 2028,” the American tech giant said.

According to reports, Musk's party is likely to target a handful of attainable House and Senate seats and aims to be the decisive vote on major issues amid the thin margins in Congress. In an earlier tweet, Musk said the party would "laser-focus" on two to three Senate seats and upto 10 House seats.

Musk, who once headed Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, strongly opposed Trump's tax bill and said it would make America bankrupt. Trump rejected Musk's opposition, saying he was upset as the new bill would end a tax credit for consumers purchasing electric vehicles.
