Judges lead green initiative with plantation drive

In a remarkable display of commitment to environmental conservation, Judges of the Amritsar Sessions Division have come together to plant saplings at various locations, including their residences, nearby parks, and court complexes. The initiative is part of the “Each One, Plant One” and “Mission One Judge, One Tree” campaigns, aimed at promoting tree plantation and ecological awareness.

The event was organised under the guidance of Amarinder Singh Grewal, District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), and coordinated by Amardeep Singh Bains, Secretary of the DLSA. During the drive, the Judges pledged to nurture the saplings and maintain records of their growth.

The campaign has already achieved notable success, with over 20,000 saplings planted across the district. The district administration and police department have also actively participated by planting trees at their respective premises.

A diverse range of native trees, including Neem, Arjan Chaal, Sahjan, Gulkand, Jamun, Amla, Desi Aam, and Nimbu, were planted as part of the mission. The campaign’s success has led the Executive Chairman of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority to extend the plantation drive until the end of July, taking advantage of the favourable monsoon season, said Amarinder Singh Grewal.

He emphasised that the drive is not merely about planting saplings but about ensuring that each one grows into a full-grown tree. He also urged the public to prioritise planting native tree species. This initiative underscores the importance of collective action in promoting environmental sustainability and conservation.
