Three behind murder bid on Moga doctor held after gunfight
The police on Sunday arrested three persons following a gunfight in the attempted murder case of a Moga doctor.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and the Counter Intelligence wing of the police.
Dr Aniljeet Kamboj was shot at by two assailants at his clinic in Kot-Ishe-Khan town of Moga on Friday, leaving him critically injured.
He is the father of Punjabi actor Tania.
The police said the conspiracy to kill the doctor was hatched by Canada-based gangster Lakhvir Singh, alias Landa Harike. Kamboj had allegedly received an extortion threat from Landa three years ago.
Three key operatives involved in the plot to assassinate Kamboj were arrested following a gunfight, said Moga SSP Ajay Gandhi.
They have been identified as Gurlal Singh, Khushpreet Singh and Gurmandeep Singh, all residents of Tarn Taran area.
The SSP said all three received a bullet wound in the leg during the exchange of fire. They are currently undergoing treatment at the local Civil Hospital under tight security, he added.
The police seized two .30 bore pistols with 10 cartridges, one .32 bore pistol with three cartridges and a car used in the conspiracy.
‘Won’t spare culprits’
Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh on Saturday visited a Moga hospital to enquire about the condition of Kamboj.
Terming the attack “deeply unfortunate and inhuman”, the minister said the perpetrators of the crime would not be spared.
“The state government is committed to upholding law and order and will ensure exemplary punishment for the culprits,” he said.
The minister said the best possible treatment was being provided to Kamboj and that the state government was offering full support to the family.
He also sought online medical guidance from renowned cardiologist Dr Bishav Mohan of the DMCH, Ludhiana. A team of specialists from the DMCH is expected to join the treatment shortly.
He said AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and CM Bhagwant Mann were regularly monitoring his health updates.
