Major crackdown on mafia; 450 bags of subsidised agri grade urea seized
In the second major crackdown in the past two months, the authorities of Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Yamunanagar, struck hard against illegal business of subsidised agriculture grade urea.
The authorities of the department found 450 bags of subsidised agriculture grade urea allegedly kept in an unauthorised godown situated at a village in the district. After writing for registration of an FIR to the police, the department has seized the urea bags and sealed the illegal godown of the fertiliser. In the first week of May 2025, 2,461 bags of subsidised agriculture grade urea were found kept in an illegal godown, situated at Tajakpur village.
The Agriculture Department seized the said urea bags and sealed the illegal godown. According to information, the Agriculture Department got information through the police on July 5 that subsidised agriculture grade urea were stocked in an unauthorised godown in the area falling under Kanalsi/Bibipur villages.
After getting information, a team of the Agriculture Department led by SDO Ajay Kumar visited the spot and found subsidised agriculture grade urea in the said godown. After counting, 450 bags were found kept in the godown. Dr Aditya Pratap Dabas, Deputy Director of Agriculture (DDA), Yamunanagar, said 450 urea bags were seized and the illegal godown was sealed.
He said in the preliminary investigation, it was found that the agriculture grade urea was transported to Yamunanagar district illegally and was stocked here in an unauthorised godown.
“We have put a total ban on illegal sale of subsidised agriculture grade urea in Yamunanagar district. Therefore, the urea mafia is now making efforts to transport urea from other places to supply it to industrial units here illegally, but we will not let these illegal activities of the mafia succeed,” said Dabas.
It is alleged that the owners of a number of plywood factories are using subsidised agriculture grade urea illegally to prepare glue, which is used as an adhesive to prepare plywood products.
The rates of the subsidised agriculture grade urea (Rs 266.50 per bag of 45 kg) are much lower than the rates of technical grade urea (Rs 2200-Rs 2400 per bag of 50 kg).
