Gopal Khemka Murder Case: Accused Arrested As He Arrived At Businessman's Funeral With Garland, Claims Report

Patna: One of the accused in the Gopal Khemka murder case was reportedly arrested on Sunday at the funeral of the businessman in Bihar's Patna on Sunday, July 6. The accused was taken into custody as he arrived at the funeral with a garland of flowers, reported News18, citing sources.

As per the report, the three accused had gathered near a tea stall in Patna's Daldali area before killing the businessman. All of them reportedly had tea, and then one of them went to Khemka's residence and shot him dead.

Khemka was associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His last rites were at Gulbi Ghat in Patna on Sunday. It was attended by businessmen and industrialists.

On Friday night at around 11:40 pm, Khemka was shot dead by an unknown assailant outside his residence. The businessman lived in the 'Twin Tower' society. The incident took place near the 'Panache' Hotel under the jurisdiction of the Gandhi Maidan police station.

Hours after Khemka's murder, CCTV footage of the crime has surfaced online. He was shot dead by a man wearing a helmet.

CCTV Footage Of The Crime:

In the CCTV footage, it could be seen that a man wearing a black helmet was standing outside the businessman's house. After a few moments, two cars arrived outside the main gate of the building. One of the cars was reportedly driven by Khemka, while the second car was driven by another man.

As Khemka was waiting for the iron gate of his building to be opened by the guard, the assailant immediately rushed towards his car and opened fire at him.

An SIT, comprising officials of the Special Task Force and sleuths of the central district police, has been constituted to supervise the ongoing investigation into the businessman's murder.

The Opposition targeted the Nitish Kumar-led government in the state over Khemka's murder. Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said the incident has once again proven that the BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have together made Bihar the "crime capital of India".

Gandhi also asserted that in the upcoming assembly polls, the vote will not be just to change the government, but to save the state.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also lashed out at the state government, alleging media manipulation to mask the deteriorating security environment.
