Ishan Chatterjee named CEO of JioStar’s sports division

JioStar has named Ishan Chatterjee as the new Chief Executive of its sports division, covering both television and digital operations. Chatterjee, who was previously the Chief Business Officer for Sports Revenue, SMB, and Creator Monetisation, steps into this position following Sanjog Gupta’s exit. Gupta has taken over as the CEO of the International Cricket Council (ICC) starting today, July 7, 2025.
The appointment was announced by Uday Shankar in an internal communication, where he praised Chatterjee’s key contributions, especially during the recently completed 18th IPL season. Chatterjee will report to Kiran and collaborate directly with Shankar on major strategic projects, including transforming JioStar’s sports business and strengthening critical partnerships. He joined JioStar in 2024.
Shankar also reflected on Gupta’s departure, calling it a “shock” but expressing deep pride in Gupta’s move to lead the ICC. He described Gupta as an exceptionally talented and trusted colleague and friend who has grown alongside him for nearly 20 years. With his extensive experience in sports strategy and revenue growth, Gupta is expected to spearhead cricket’s global development, especially as the sport prepares for its debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Shankar underlined the significance of Gupta’s new position, noting that it is crucial for shaping the future of cricket worldwide.
