'Train Wreck Off The Rails': Trump Slams Elon Musk's America Party As 'Ridiculous', Makes This Prediction

Donald Trump on Monday slammed former ally Elon Musk day after he announced he the launch of a new political party called the 'America Party'. The US President called the move "ridiculous," claiming that it won't work. Calling the Tesla and SpaceX CEO a "train wreck," Trump said Musk had "gone off the rails" after he announced that he wanted to challenge the current US political system.

"It's ridiculous to start a third party. We have tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it's always been a two-party system. Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it, but I think it's ridiculous," Trump told reporters, as reported by news agency AFP.

Up until a few weeks ago, the billionaire was a close ally of Trump and appeared almost inseparable from the US President as he headed the cost-cutting 'Department of Government Efficiency'. However, their ties soured over Trump's "big beautiful" tax and spending bill.

In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump continued his attack on Musk, accusing him of having gone off the trails in the past five weeks.

"I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely “off the rails,” essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks. He even wants to start a Third Political Party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States - The System seems not designed for them," he wrote, adding that the third parties only create "total disruption and chaos".

"The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS, and we have enough of that with the Radical Left Democrats, who have lost their confidence and their minds! Republicans, on the other hand, are a smooth running “machine,” that just passed the biggest Bill of its kind in the History of our Country," he added.

South Africa-born Elon Musk on Saturday had announced that he would create the 'America Party' to challenge what he called the "one-party system" in the US. He said Trump's massive domestic spending plan would explode the US debt as he vowed to do everything in his power to defeat lawmakers who voted in the bill's favour.

Musk Gave Unquestioned Endorsement On No EV Mandate, Says Trump

Trump fhailed the "Great Bill," which eliminates the "ridiculous EV mandate," calling it unfortunate for Musk. He further went on to claim that Musk had earlier given him an unquestioned endorsement even when he was told about the termination of EV mandate.

"It is a Great Bill but, unfortunately for Elon, it eliminates the ridiculous Electric Vehicle (EV) Mandate, which would have forced everyone to buy an Electric Car in a short period of time.

I have campaigned on this for two years and, quite honestly, when Elon gave me his total and unquestioned endorsement, I asked him whether or not he knew that I was going to terminate the EV Mandate - It was in every speech I made, and in every conversation I had. He said he had no problems with that - I was very surprised!" Trump added.

The US President also revealed that Musk had sought to have a "close friend" from the space industry appointed as NASA chief — a request that Trump claims he rejected in order to avoid conflicts of interest since "NASA is such a big part of Elon’s corporate life." "I also thought it inappropriate... My Number One charge is to protect the American Public!"

Treasury Secretary Takes Swipe At Musk Over Political Party

Trump's remarks came after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Sunday took a swip at Elon Musk over his attempts to enter the political fray, advising him to focus on running his companies.

"I believe that the boards of directors at his various companies wanted him to come back and run those companies, which he is better at than anyone," Bessent said, when asked by CNN if Musk's plan bothered the Trump administration.

"So I imagine that those board of directors did not like this announcement yesterday and will be encouraging him to focus on his business activities, not his political activities," he added.

Referring to the DOGE, which Musk left in May citing corporate responsibilities, Bessent said: "The principles of DOGE were very popular — but if you looked at the polling, Elon was not".

Trump had given Musk a grand farewell in the Oval Office, where the billionaire appeared with a black eye. He had even received a golden key to the White House from the US president.
