Balmer Lawrie-backed Startup Naptapgo Launches India’s Largest Pod Hotel in Amritsar
Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd., a Mini-Ratna I Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, announces the launch of India’s largest pod-style budget hotel in Amritsar through its portfolio startup NapTapGo. Just an 8-minute walk from the Golden Temple, NapTapGo Amritsar marks a transformative moment in Indian hospitality bringing tech-first and cleanliness-centric budget accommodations to one of India’s most visited spiritual cities.
This key milestone reflects Balmer Lawrie’s ongoing dedication to empowering innovative Indian startups through its Startup Fund, building on the INR 1 crore equity investment in NapTapGo announced in January 2025.
NapTapGo Amritsar is India’s largest pod hotel with 56 PODs making it the first pod hotel in India to offer pod-style rooms specifically designed for group and family stays. It is also the first pod hotel globally to provide attached washrooms. With a strong emphasis on cleanliness and technology, the hotel boasts of fully automated check-ins, AI-driven housekeeping and IoT-enabled hygiene monitoring systems. The hotel is designed to serve the high daily footfall of Amritsar, which attracts over one lakh weekday visitors and more than two lakhs on weekends.
The launch of NapTapGo Amritsar aligns with several Government initiatives including the promotion of tourism and pilgrimage in religious cities. By expanding accommodation capacity near the Golden Temple, the project enhances the city’s infrastructure to support heritage and spiritual travel. Furthermore, it fits within the Government’s vision for expanding clean, budget-friendly hotel options and supports the broader goals of the Startup India and Make in India missions. As a homegrown, tech-first hospitality startup, NapTapGo exemplifies innovation, creates local employment opportunities and encourages entrepreneurship.
