WATCH: Wiaan Mulder breaks Don Bradman, Hanif Mohammad records but makes HUGE sacrifice for team due to…
South Africa captain Wiaan Mulder broke multiple records during his record knock of 367 not out against Zimbabwe on Day 2 of the 2nd Test in Bulawayo on Monday. Mulder became the highest run-scorer by a batter on captaincy debut with his sensational show, which only fell 33 short of Brian Lara’s world-record score of 400 not out.
However, Mulder broke legendary Hanif Mohammad and Sir Donald Bradman’s records when he became the highest individual run-scorer in an away Test match. The SA and Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder went past Hanif’s mark of 337 which he had scored against West Indies in Barbados in 1958 and even Bradman’s 334 against England at Headingley in Leeds in 1930.

Mulder now also has the highest aggregate by a South Africa batter in a Test, surpassing Graeme Smith’s 362 (277 and 85) against England at Edgbaston in 2003.
Why Brian Lara’s Test record was not broken?
Mulder had the opportunity to break West Indies legend Brian Lara’s record of highest-ever individual score in Test cricket, needing another 33 runs after Lunch on Day 2 of the 2nd Test. But the SA skipper, who was given a charge with regular captain Temba Bavuma and Keshav Maharaj both out injured, chose to declare the innings at 626 for 5. His knock came off only 334 balls with 49 fours and 4 sixes.
The all-rounder now has the 5th highest individual score in Test history behind Lara’s 400 and 375, Australia’s Matthew Hayden (380) and Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene with 374. Mulder became the highest run-getter for South Africa, going past Hashim Amla, who had scored 311 not out against England in 2012.
His century came up in 118 balls and his double ton in 214 – the second fastest by a South African in Test cricket, and as the run rate increased he got to 250 off 243 balls including 35 boundaries.
He scored the 2nd fastest Test triple century off 298 balls on Monday morning, just behind former India batter Virender Sehwag’s triple ton off 278 balls – scored against South Africa in Chennai.
Mulder had joined Kavya Maran’s Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025 season for Rs 75 lakh as replacement of England’s Brydon Carse. But Mulder played in only one match for SRH in the season.
