Berhampur: A severe diarrhoea outbreak in Digapahandi block of Odisha’s Ganjam district has claimed two lives and affected over 150 people in the past three days, as per reports.

The outbreak, which has sparked concern among residents, is still under investigation as health officials work to identify its cause.

The cases is surging in the tribal-dominated Ustalli village under Sahadev Tikarpada panchayat.

The outbreak, reported on Saturday, comes weeks after a similar crisis in Jajpur district.

One of the deceased has been identified as Das Sabar (55).

At least 10 patients are receiving treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after their condition worsened at Digapahandi Community Health Centre, reports added.

Contaminated water is suspected as the primary cause, though health officials are awaiting test results from water and stool samples to confirm.

Rapid action and mobile health teams were dispatched to the village following alerts from the State Disease Surveillance System.

Earlier, the diarrhoea epidemic in Jajpur claimed 21 lives and affected nearly 1,700 people last month, according to reports.
