Korean Netflix series 'Trigger' from acclaimed director behind 'Midnight' sets premiere date

Kwon Oh-Seung, the South Korean director behind the acclaimed 2021 psychological thriller Midnight, is back with a thriller series titled Trigger, which is slated for premiere on Netflix on July 25.
As per Netflix, the series is set in gun-free South Korea—buying, selling or possessing firearms is illegal in the country—and how illegally procured guns of unknown origin and resulting events wreak havoc. The chain of events involves two men who have to take up arms for different reasons: one is an idealistic and determined detective, Yi-Do (Kim Nam-Gil); the other, an underground arms dealer, Moon-Baek (Kim Young-Kwang), with plans of his own.
Kim Nam-gil is known for his work in the Western action series Song of the Bandits and the detective series The Fiery Priest, while Kim Young-kwang is known for the thriller web series Somebody and romance drama Call It Love.
According to director Kwon Oh-Seung, the series confronts the question: What would happen if everyone possessed guns in South Korea?
"It is a story about a situation that we all have imagined at least once. This series explores guns from a different perspective, putting them at the centre of the story," says Oh-Seung, whose Midnight had the privilege of doing the festival circuits across the globe.
After its release in theatres and on home video, the film was received favourably by critics and audiences, with a 100% on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. The high-intensity thriller revolved around a cat-and-mouse game between a hearing-impaired woman and a psychopathic killer after she witnesses him committing a murder.
