Earlier, speaking to the media, DGP Vinay Kumar stated, “Patna Police and the STF team are working effectively in this case. Based on suspicion, a dozen people have been detained and are being questioned.” He added that a technical probe and electronic data analysis are underway to identify both the killers and the conspirators.

DGP Kumar also revealed a possible connection between the crime and inmates lodged in Beur Jail. A raid was carried out inside the jail on this suspicion, resulting in the recovery of multiple mobile phones and the suspension of certain individuals.

“The STF team visited the spot on Sunday and has gathered many important clues. However, due to security reasons, these details cannot be made public at the moment. I am confident the case will be cracked soon,” Kumar said, as reported by IANS.

Gopal Khemka Murder: Bihar DGP On Police Delay In Reaching Spot

When questioned about the delay in the police reaching the crime scene, Kumar explained that the first priority after the shooting was to rush the injured businessman to Mediversal Hospital, where he was admitted around 12:30 A.M. The officer-in-charge of Kankarbagh Police Station arrived at the hospital within minutes.

“There was some delay in reaching the spot, but saving the victim’s life was the priority. This delay is being investigated, and if any officer is found responsible, action will be taken, including suspension,” Kumar noted, as per IANS.

On the matter of Khemka’s security, the DGP informed that the businessman had been assigned a bodyguard in 2018, which continued for six years but was withdrawn after April 2024. This withdrawal decision is now under scrutiny. Sources indicated that Khemka himself may have requested the security’s removal, but Kumar emphasised, “A detailed probe is being conducted into all correspondence related to the security withdrawal, and if negligence by any officer is found, strict action will be taken.”

Khemka was fatally shot late Friday night near his home, which is located close to the Gandhi Maidan Police Station and residences of senior district officials. His murder has fuelled political and public anger over Bihar’s law and order situation ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls.
