Employees Federation supports call by trade unions for strike on July 9

The Democratic Employees Federation has announced its support for the July 9 nationwide strike being called by the central trade unions and announced protest rallies and demonstrations in all districts in collaboration with like-minded organisations.

A state committee meeting of the Federation was held here today. Addressing the gathering, state president Jarmanjit Singh said that the rights of labourers, employees and workers on honorarium basis are being violated on a large scale by the BJP-led government at the Centre and the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab.

He said that the Modi government’s abolition of 44 pro-labour laws and bringing four labour codes, continuing and further strengthening the contract and outsourcing system, privatising government institutions and handing them over to corporates, accelerating the policy of downsiing government departments, cancelling the New Pension Scheme and several other decisions have proven that both these governments are not working for the people but for corporate houses.

“The AAP-led government in Punjab is ahead of the Central government in not resolving the issues of labourers, employees and workers on honorarium. Their demand for wage hike and regularisation has fallen on deaf ears for the last three years. Whether it is the restoration of Old Pension Scheme or refusing to release various withheld allowances of employees, including that for serving in rural and border areas, the state government has let the workers down,” he said.
