Petrol bomb hurled at Adampur house, 3 booked

Three unidentified persons have been booked by the Jalandhar Rural police after miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a house in Adampur in the wee hours on Saturday.

The incident came to light on Sunday after the owner of the house at Gandhi Nagar in Adampur lodged a complaint to the police. The family was earlier oblivious of the incident. But house owner Parminder Kaur got to know about it after her daughter informed her mother of the incident after watching the CCTV footage of the cameras installed on the premises.

The footage shows three persons hurling a petrol bomb on the premises of the house. The persons can be seen throwing a glowing ball-like object towards a house wall, which then falls with a huge bang, letting out flames.

A case has been registered against the three persons under Sections 326 (g) (mischief, causing serious harm), 324 (4) (causing damage, destruction, or diminution of value or utility of property); 62 (2) of the BNS Act at the Adampur police station on Sunday.

The police said 52-year-old Parminder Kaur has three children, two of whom – daughter Harpreet Kaur and a son – live abroad. One son lives with her and is a cab driver. Officials said while Parminder’s daughter Harpreet, who lives in Argentina, had access to the CCTV camera, it was she who informed her mother of the incident.

Based on this, Parminder made a complaint to the Adampur police. Officials said as per the preliminary probe, the family did not appear rich. The police also ruled out extortion or dispute as the cause of the incident as per the probe so far.

SSP, Jalandhar, Harvinder Singh Virk said, “I along with the DIG visited the site and talked to the woman. So far, we do not believe extortion is the cause behind the incident as the family didn’t receive a call either. However, all angles are being probed."

Speaking to the media, DIG, Jalandhar Range, Naveen Singla said, “Three persons targeted a house in Adampur. They threw a fuel bomb towards the house. There has been no loss of life in the incident. The police force was immediately deputed after the incident. We have collected evidence and registered a case under stringent sections. The culprits will be caught soon. I have talked to the family. The family has no history of prior rivalry, nor have they received any extortion call. But police are exploring all angles."
