Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani take big step, set to affect thousands of people due to…
After devastating floods hit Assam in late May and early June, Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani-led Reliance Foundation has come forward to help thousands of affected people with much-needed support. In districts like Cachar, Nagaon, and Sribhumi, among the worst affected, many families lost their homes, clean water became scarce, and health risks grew, especially for women, children, and families who depend on animals for their livelihood.
To help these communities, Reliance Foundation started relief work in 50 villages. Their efforts include sharing early flood warnings, spreading awareness about staying healthy, providing safe drinking water, giving out hygiene kits, and offering medical care for animals. According to a press release, these actions are helping people get back on their feet and stay safe in the difficult days after the floods.
Reliance Foundation’s on-ground work in Assam
Even before the floods hit Assam, Reliance Foundation was already on the ground, helping villages that are prone to flood, prepare. They shared early warnings so that people could get ready, move to safer places if needed, and reduce the damage as much as possible.
The Foundation launched a health awareness drive and reached over 74,000 people with important tips on how to stay safe, like how to avoid diseases, use clean water, and maintain hygiene. Special care was taken to support women and teenage girls, who often face extra challenges during such disasters.
Reliance Foundation set up portable water filter system in Assam
One of the biggest dangers after floods is unsafe drinking water. To deal with this, Reliance Foundation set up a portable water filter system that cleaned dirty water from rivers and ponds. In just five days, it provided about 3,000 litres of safe water to around 200 people in areas most at risk. The team also taught families how to store and use water safely to protect themselves from illness.
Reliance Foundation held 15 special camps to care for livestock
In flood-hit parts of Assam, many families depend on animals for food and income. To help, Reliance Foundation held 15 special camps to care for livestock where over 5,300 animals were treated, and 656 farmers got direct help from vets.
Staying clean during a disaster is always tough. To make things easier, the Foundation gave out 1,500 hygiene kits. These included useful items like soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, buckets, and mugs.
More than 50 team members stepped up to volunteer
One of the most heartwarming parts of the relief work was the effort by Reliance’s own staff in Assam. More than 50 team members stepped up to volunteer. They helped put together and hand out the kits, making sure that even faraway villages like Sarupathar in Nagaon district were not left behind.
