SSMB29: Is R Madhavan playing Mahesh Babu's father in Rajamouli's next?

The next SS Rajamouli film with Mahesh Babu, tentatively titled SSMB29, is one of the most eagerly awaited enterprises for obvious reasons. The big-budget multi-starrer, which has Prithviraj Sukumaran in a supposedly antagonist role, was launched at the beginning of the year.

Priyanka Chopra is playing the female lead. There have been other big names expected to fill in the rest of the cast members. The two names that recently popped up online are Vikram and R Madhavan. As per the latest rumours, R Madhavan will be playing Mahesh Babu's father and that the character originally went to 'Chiyaan' Vikram and that the role went to Madhavan after the former turned it down. However, except for Mahesh Babu, there has been no confirmation on the other names yet.

The plot details of the film, which is Rajamouli's next after RRR, are currently being kept under wraps. Initially, there were reports of the film's release being planned as a two-parter, but the makers have since then decided to release it as one film.

The makers have reportedly filmed schedules in Hyderabad and Odisha so far. The film once again marks the creative collaboration between Rajamouli and his father, Vijayendra Prasad, who also wrote the Baahubali films and RRR.

Madhavan has recently been trying his hand at interesting and demanding characters which require considerable physical preparation. After starring alongside Akshay Kumar in Kesari: Chapter 2, the actor is part of Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar in the role of real-life intelligence professional Ajit Doval and the Netflix romance drama Aap Jaisa Koi co-starring Fatima Sana Shaikh. The actor's near-unrecognisable look in Dhurandhar has got people talking already.
