CM Mann, Kejriwal launch Rs 10 lakh health cover scheme
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday launched the Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana, making Punjab the only state in the country to provide cashless treatment of up to Rs 10 lakh to all its residents
Addressing a gathering during the launch of the universal health insurance scheme, Mann said many people suffering from serious ailments could not afford quality treatment due to its high cost. With this scheme, he said the treatment would be free in all empanelled hospitals of the state government, giving huge succour to the common man.
The CM said Kejriwal brought the health, education, power, water and infrastructure sector at the centre stage of national politics. He said these sectors were the top priority of his government.
Mann said Punjabis were being unnecessarily targeted by the self-proclaimed nationalists who were envious of Punjab and Punjabis. Citing the case of Diljit Dosanjh, he said the actor’s movie, which was shot much before the Pahalgam attack, had been unnecessarily banned in the country.
He said Punjabis had always played a key role in making the country self-reliant in food production and safeguarding the borders of the nation.
The CM said in the recent war-like situation with Pakistan, it was Punjab that suffered, but the country witnessed a “political drama in the name of Operation Sindoor". Mann said it was ironic that the BJP and Centre sent ‘sindoor’ to every household without any rationale and made a mockery of the emotions of the people.
The CM said under the patronage of earlier governments, smugglers, gangsters and other criminals had made the state their abode. The state government had now started a crusade to weed out these anti-national elements, he said, adding that this blot would be soon washed away.
Mann said “haughty politicians" who were fond of posing for pictures by twirling their moustaches were now behind bars. He said such leaders, who had ruined generations of the state, would have to pay the price of their sins and the state government would ensure that they get exemplary punishment for their misdeeds.
Speaking on the occasion, Kejriwal said the insurance scheme was a step towards providing universal healthcare facilities to people without spending even a penny on it. He said the work that was being done today should have been done 50 years but unfortunately it was never on the agenda of those who ruled the country.
Kejriwal said those who claim to make the country “Vishavguru" had hitherto denied these facilities to the people, due to which the country had lagged behind.
Citing examples of countries like Singapore, Japan, Germany and others, Kejriwal said they excelled because these countries had focused on these issues.
