Youth arrested for raping minor
Panchkula: The police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor. The family of a 16-year-old from Panchkula told the police that the suspect had lured their daughter into moving to Amritsar, where they were living together. The minor returned home a few days later and underwent a medical examination, which confirmed sexual assault. A case was registered under the POCSO Act.
Vendor arrested for murder
Panchkula: The police apprehended a murder suspect within hours of the crime. The suspect, Akash, was arrested from Sector 26. He and the victim, Raman of Buana, Jind, had an argument at a food stall where the suspect worked. As the spat escalated, Akash allegedly stabbed Raman in the chest. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. A case was registered.
Fire at pharmacy, no casualty
Mohali: An ayurvedic pharmacy in a residential area of Phase 7 was gutted in an early morning fire on Tuesday. No loss of life was reported, but the ground floor premises was completely destroyed in the blaze. Two fire tenders doused the flames in half an hour. Fire officials said short circuit might have caused the fire though the exact cause was not known. Sub fire officer Suresh Kumar said the fire spread quickly as a large number of plastic containers and furniture were kept in the room. The pharmacy owner and his family were away to a religious place in Rajasthan when the incident took place. On hearing about the incident they rushed back home.
