MP Aujla meets with GNDU VC, discusses seat expansion
MP Gurjeet Aujla on Tuesday met with Guru Nanak Dev University Vice-Chancellor Prof Karamjeet Singh to discuss matters of concern regarding higher education in the border district. Aujla sought expansion of seats and robust infrastructure in terms of academics and non-academic areas as GNDU is the only nearest access to quality higher education for students from remote border rural areas of Ajnala, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur.
“In the current environment, when more and more students are choosing to stay in India for higher education, it is our duty to ensure they are provided with world-class facilities, quality teaching and sufficient admissions opportunities right here in Punjab. Today, I met with Prof Karamjit Singh to address the growing gap between student demand and educational capacity at GNDU,” he said.
Key issues discussed include expansion of admissions across all courses (minimum 20 per cent increase), recruitment of more qualified professors and teaching staff, upgrading of campus infrastructure and classrooms, equal development on a par with Punjabi University, Patiala.
“If needed, emergency funding can be supported through MPLAD funds,” said Aujla.
He also commended the university’s decision to have a 5 per cent seat increase for students from border and rural areas. “It’s a positive start, but much more needs to be done to ensure GNDU becomes a beacon of academic excellence once again.”
