Police launch spl checking drive in Tarn Taran

The police on Tuesday launched a surprise checking drive in the district to keep a vigil over illegal activities of anti-social elements.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Pareek, while taking part in the checking drive, said the police set up 10 nakas in five towns — Tarn Taran, Patti, Bhikhiwnd, Khemkaran and Valtoha — and at five sensitive points in border area villages.

The SSP said during the drive, suspicious vehicles were checked and questioned. The main target of the police was to keep a check on the illegal activities of anti-social elements, who allegedly carry illegal weapons with them and drive vehicles without number plates.

He said nakas were being overseen by senior police officials and SHOs in their respective areas. The SSP called upon the residents to be watchful of illegal activities of suspicious elements and if they get to know about their activities, inform the nearest police station. He advised the law-abiding citizens not to get terrorised by special checking drives by the police as these were being conducted for their safety.
