Santa Fe: As heavy floods wreaked havoc in Texas, the state of the United States over the past few days, its neighbouring state, New Mexico, also witnessed devastation due to heavy rains. Ruidoso, a small town in New Mexico, is marred by massive flash floods.
Many visuals of devastation in Ruidoso surfaced online. Several homes were reportedly washed away by flash floods. One of the visuals shows an entire house being swept away due to a strong current of water.
The water level at the Rio Ruidoso river rose to the danger mark. Multiple bridges in the area were reported to be submerged. The US National Weather Service said that the emergency is still in effect in Ruidoso.
"A DANGEROUS situation is unfolding in RUIDOSO!" the agency said on X.
"A FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY remains in effect! Seek HIGHER GROUND NOW! Do NOT attempt to drive through the floodwaters. The current will carry away your vehicle!" it added.
Meanwhile, no injuries have been reported in the town so far. According to The Associated Press, at least 85 swift water rescues were carried out. Residents have been advised by the authorities to reach higher places. Mudslides were also reported in the area.
Notably, Ruidoso was also one of the areas in New Mexico that was hit by wildfires last year.
