New Delhi: Kerala Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar on Wednesday said that state-run KSRTC buses would continue operating on Wednesday, despite central trade unions calling for a nationwide strike. Bharat Bandh Today:

A consortium of 10 central trade unions and their affiliates, representing 25 crore workers, has called for a nationwide general strike today (July 9) to protest against what they describe as the Central government’s “anti-worker, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate policies that are detrimental to national interests.”

Over 25 crore workers from across sectors like banking, insurance, postal and construction are on a nationwide strike today, leading to multiple services being shut down today. The bandh came into effect in the early hours of July 9, and will continue throughout the day.

App-based Cab Services Likely to Get Affected:

Public buses, taxis, and app-based cab services (Ola, Uber, Rapido, inDrive) could be affected as trade unions and allied groups hold protest marches and road demonstrations in several cities.

Schools, colleges and private sector enterprises, however, will remain open. All emergency services such as hospitals, police stations and fire departments are set to remain open. Public transport services may see disruptions, however, cab and metro services are expected to run normally. Traffic disruptions may occur on busy routes.
