Bihar News: Congress Alleges ‘Votebandi’ As Rahul Gandhi Reaches Patna, EC Defends Voter List Verification

As political tensions escalate in Bihar over the ongoing voter list verification drive, Congress has termed the process as ‘votebandi’, accusing the government of attempting to suppress the electoral rights of marginalized communities. Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram alleged that Dalits, backward, and extremely backward sections are being deliberately excluded from the voter rolls. He emphasized that whenever the nation has faced a crisis, Rahul Gandhi has taken to the streets, and now he is coming to Patna to fight this democratic battle.Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has responded strongly, stating that an accurate voter list is essential to strengthen democracy. According to the Election Commission, approximately 7.90 crore voters are registered in Bihar. Of the 7.70 crore forms distributed, 3.71 crore have already been collected, and 46.95% of the verification forms have been submitted. So far, 18.16% forms have been uploaded digitally. As the opposition rallies under the INDIA alliance and intensifies protests, including today’s Bihar Bandh, the debate over voter rights, inclusion, and electoral fairness continues to dominate the political discourse. The situation is further heated with both ruling and opposition parties trading sharp barbs over law and order in the state.
